< back Kate and Nia
Kate Hamilton Hunter and Nia Roberts are passionate about design. They work together from a studio in Wales to create art pieces combining painted surfaces with delicate metal and wire shapes which connect with people from all walks of life.
Kate Hamilton-Hunter's designs include stylized forms that represent nature, the sea, the home and relationships. Her 20 years of experience in design-based businesses and teaching has led her from dressmaking and textiles through to working with lightweight metal, including recycled tins, aluminum and wire. She designs and makes her own range of jewellery and also creates framed work and contemporary canvases with Nia Roberts. She has been designing in metal since studying for an HNC in Textiles in 1997-99.
Nia Roberts has 5 years training and experience working in interior decoration, textiles and mixed media. She has developed a unique technique of layering texture, textiles, paint and colour in muted tones on canvas and paper to create a subtle and contemporary painted surface. She has also designed her own range of canvases taking the theme `Memories`, using old photos and memorabilia to create a personal piece of heirloom art. The open space, peace and tranquillity of her childhood home in Wales has been a major influence on her work.
