Georges Maroniez

This painter of genre subjects and landscapes was born in the north of France in 1865. He was taught by the Demont-Bretons and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a Member from 1889. He was awarded an Honourable Mention in 1891, a First Class Medal in 1905 and a Second Class Medal in 1906. Maroniez was so successful in his chosen career that he became a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur and he gained a particularly high reputation for his paintings of the sea and fishing scenes.
