< back Mandy Ng
Mandy Ng was born in 1965 and spent most of her childhood in St Helens, where her parents ran a small take-away business.
She loved to draw and paint from an early age and, after leaving school, took an Art Foundation Course and, later, a further HND Course, specialising in Surface Pattern Design.
Mandy Ng's parents originate from China and her work has always been inspired by the culture, arts, crafts and architecture of this country. She has also travelled extensively around the world and from these visits she has gathered many items of interest which she has used in her designs.
Mandy Ng works in a range of media, including gouache, watercolour and collage. In particular, her collage work includes the use of handmade papers, metallic foils, tissue paper, hand-pressed flowers and leaves. She concentrates particularly on the selection of complementary colours and strongly textured papers.
Many Ng's designs have been produced on wall-coverings and textiles, and are featured in many of the major British department stores. When not working, her main interests are travelling, sport, gardening, cooking and dining out.
