George O'Neill

George Bernard O'Neill was born in Ireland in 1827. Little is known about his life but records at the Royal Academy, London, state that he was a regular exhibitor for forty six years; from the first paintings he submitted at the age of nineteen until his last exhibit in 1893. For the majority of his painting career he lived in London, but later in life he joined the 'Cranbrook Colony' group of artists, working in the Kent countryside. This group was headed by Thomas Webster, and was inspired by the seventeenth century Dutch and Flemish genre painters.
