Tom Roberts, painter of genre subjects, portraits and landscapes, was born in Dorchester, England in 1856. He left England for Australia in 1869 and studied at the Melbourne Gallery Schools, although he eventually completed his studies in London at the Royal Academy Schools. Little else is known about his life.
