Description
The Bordeaux region in France is the second largest wine region in the world and has a worldwide reputation for its wine production and wine heritage. The region has an excellent environment for growing vines and wine has been produced in the area since Roman times. The limestone geography provides calcium-rich soil and the natural paths of the rivers Garonne and Dordogne irrigate the land. Combined with a warm and coastal climate, the perfect environment for cultivating grapes is thus created. During his travels around Bordeaux, Michael Broadbent has sketched many significant or interesting landmarks, resulting in a collection of notes and drawings which he has then compiled into an unique wine map of the region. In Bordeaux, he plots along the river Gironde all the notable wine estates including Châteaux Margaux, Latour, Olivier and d’Yquem. A sketch of the stunning natural cellars of Chateau Ausone is also included, as well as a drawing of Bordeaux’s beautiful old market place.
