Description
North Berwick Golf Club is supposedly the thirteenth oldest in the world and its long and proud history includes the staging of many legendary challenge matches over two centuries. The course is a true Links, starting in the town centre and stretching westwards along the shores of the Firth of Forth, with fine views over sandy beaches, rocky islands and the hills of Fife. The Club was established in 1832, with ten founding members, principally drawn from the gentry living in the vicinity. The West Links course extends over 6,420 yards and is a Par 71. Particularly notable holes are the 14th (known as “Perfection” because it apparently requires two perfect shots to hit the green), the 15th (“Redan”), which is a testing par 3 played to a sloping green, and the famous 18th hole (“Home”), a par 4 covering 274 yards, giving those completing their round a good opportunity to finish with a birdie in front of the clubhouse.
