Henriette Browne

 

Artist Biography:

French painter and etcher 'Henriette Browne', the pseudonym for Mme Jules de Saulx, née Sophie Boutellier was born in Paris in 1829. She studied under Penn and Chaplin and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1853 and at the Royal Academy in 1871-9. Throughout her career, Browne painted and engraved many religious subjects taken from the Bible, Near-Eastern subjects and genre scenes. She gave up exhibiting some 20 years before her death, which took place in Paris.
