Harley Brown


Artist Biography:

Harley Brown was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and was raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchew. At the early age of seven, Harley decided he wanted to be an artist and learnt about art from drawing lessons that were taught by his father. Harley went to Alberta College of Art, Camberwell School of Art in London and finally studied at the Art Student’s league in New York. In the beginning of his career, he played jazz piano in night clubs and started out with a peddler's license selling his art door to door and "Graduated" to notable galleries and museums. He has painted alongside many professional artists and mentors on location, and also in studios. His models have included celebrities for magazine covers and he has also painted official portraits of important figures including Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan. Additionally Harley has written four books on art including the biography of fellow artist Howard Terpning. Harley and his wife, Carol, have five children with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harley is an important artist receiving numerous awards and honours over the years and is a member of several art organizations such as Cowboy Artists of America.
