Richard Young

Artist Biography:

Richard Young began oil painting at the age of 12 and has extensively developed his own personal style through exhaustive self-tuition and `burning the midnight oil` ever since. His original work is now carried by galleries spread throughout the World. Richard describes his artwork as heading towards contemporary realism, influenced and inspired by the romanticism of his favourite Post-Renaissance Masters. His compositions are carefully composed anonymity, capturing the emotions and self-belief and subject, rather than characteristic individual representation. His dancers are passionate, moody and emotional, with a frozen realism. His figurative artwork is sensual and his musicians and singers simply come alive on the canvas. Light plays a very important part in his work and his high contrast dramatic lighting, adds depth to the original work and creates an atmosphere where he currently paints with a knife using a very limited colour palette and only mixing on the canvas itself.
