This beautiful map depicts East Indian Ocean Islands from 1747. It shows the latest discoveries, which were agreed and approved on by the use of other maps & charts. The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the world's oceanic divisions, covering approximately 20% of the water on the Earth's surface. It is bounded by Asia, including India, after which the ocean is named on the north, on the west by Africa, on the east by Australia, and on the south by the Southern Ocean. The map is originally from Bowen's 'A Complete System of Geography' which was a list of 70 maps, which were intended as a complete atlas in themselves. In the title Bowen states that he is “Preserving all that is useful in the Fourth and Last edition of the Complete Geographer”.
