Holder’s forte was his depiction of Caribbean women. This is a typical portrait by Boscoe Holder, painted during his years in Trinidad. The use of the background colour to offset the white dress and headdress illustrates just what a great eye he had for colour, shape and passion. The viewer is left to use their imagination as to what are her thoughts but, in any event, the picture brings a sense of peace, tranquillity and quiet, which is the antithesis of modern life.
