The Zulu people are a Bantu ethnic group from South Africa and, indeed, are the largest ethnic group in the country, with an estimated 11 million people, living mainly in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Small numbers are also found in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique and they have their own language which is Bantu. The Zulu were originally a major plan in what is today Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Tretchikoff has captured the majesty of a domestic couple, who are gently confident and proud in themselves. The modern Zulu population is fairly evenly distributed in both urban and rural areas and they are recognised for their dignity. They still maintain their traditional clothing for ceremonial or cultural celebratory occasions.
