The original painting of Houses in Auvers was painted in Auvers-sur-Oise in June 1890. The town of Auvers had the perfect atmosphere for Van Gogh. Three artists that Van Gogh valued highly for giving the area their attention were Cézanne, Pissarro and Corot, who recorded the area in paintings, transforming its moods in their use of colour and conferring the natural nobility of art on the townspeople. Van Gogh had always had a tendency to follow in another person's footsteps and in Auvers it was an easy and natural thing to do.
