Notre Dame de la Guard is a Catholic basilica in Marseilles, France and the City`s best-known symbol. The site of a popular assumption day pilgrimage, it is the most visited site in Marseilles and it was built on the foundations of an ancient fort at the highest natural point in Marseilles. The construction of the Basilica began in 1852 and lasted for 21 years. Paul Signac painted this scene between 1905 and 1906 and it is one of his most iconic paintings.
