Jacob Monk


Artist Biography:

Jacob Monk was a publisher, based in Baltimore in Maryland and later in Philadelphia. Working in the middle of the nineteenth century, his name is particularly associated now with some of the beautiful maps which appeared under his imprint. Amongst the maps he published was one entitled New Map of That Portion of North America Exhibiting the United States and Territories of The Canadas, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Mexico, also Central America and the West India Islands. The map was published by Monk, but engraved and printed by A Hoen & Co. Monk was associated with other beautiful maps published at this time, including a companion piece depicting Central America, Cuba and Florida.
