The double entendre of this image is not lost on the viewer. This is one of a series of four which highlight Edwardian life at the beginning of the 20th Century. The term to kiss is used in both snooker and billiards and is a term used when a player makes a second contact on the object ball and thus commits a foul. The kiss, therefore, on the table is unlucky but the kiss with the pretty damsel is quite obviously a lucky kiss for the player.
