The original map is dated around 1662 and was based on the famous survey by John Norwood of The Bermuda Company, undertaken in 1618. It shows the island divided into lots and "tribes". There is a list of proprietors printed at the bottom, giving the number of shares assigned to each, recording the original members of The Bermuda Company. Blaeu's map is one of the most influential and beautiful early maps of the island and is decorated with a splendid cartouche of Neptune astride the Royal Arms.
