Planisphere maps show the brightest star members in each constellation in a way that can be recognised when it is held in the proper orientation to the sky. It is the reference to this orientation of the constellations, their members stars and the targeted object which is of advantage to the reader that makes it a very useful tool for learning about the night sky. The word `Planishere` was originally used in the second century by Ptolemy to describe the representation of a spherical Earth by a map drawn in the plane. The viewer should always remember that planets and asteroids do tend to change position a little over the years.
